Woman, time is ripe for change

Woman, time is ripe for change!

EVERY year, women celebrate Women’s Day. What is so special about this day, everyone wonders… For me, at each celebration, I ask is ‘What have the women achieved in all the past years?’

No matter where we come from; women have the same challenges, desires and fears. Breaking free from these hindrances to achieve something, women need someone to pat their shoulder and say ‘you can make it’ and support them as well. For the young girls, they need good role models to show them a better life.

Today, women have become the bread winners for their families. This is evidenced by the number of professional women in the workforce. This has left husbands and children to be cared for by housekeepers. Family values have been compromised as a result of struggling for survival.

The time is ripe for change. To the working woman, invest time in ‘you’. Plan a few minutes during your hectic day to take care of yourself. Empower yourself. It is so painful that women being beaten for only sh300 meant for buying salt or worse still for a woman to sell her body for sh1,000. Create ways of achieving some kind of FINANCIAL generating activity. Do something: grow vegetables, make mats or rear poultry. Throw out the excuses of “I have no money to start a business”, “I failed to get a job”.

Whatever you are going through now, remember to set a goal of celebrating next year’s women’s day as a happier woman. “The power is in your hands to live your life to the fullest.”
